This blog post is all about summer and summer’s early flowers: poppies! Les Coquelicots is the name of my favorite painting by Claude Monet, coquelicots in French meaning poppies. You know summer has arrived with the first poppies that start to appear here and there in June. Fields of poppies can usually be found in the countryside and outside big cities. I was surprised to find a beautiful poppy field in the metropolitan area of Tokyo, in Tachikawa city, only 30 minutes by train from central Tokyo.

Since it was pretty hot, the poppies were bound to wither soon so after getting my Sunday dress on, as it was a pretty sunny afternoon, I went to Showa Kinen Park in Tachikawa to see (and take photos of) the beautiful poppies. Showa Kinen Park is the biggest park in the area so there are many activities that could be done there, from barbeques, picnics, cycling and so on. Not far from the park, there is an Ikea, perfect for having a yummy meal there and also do some shopping!

Ever since I started photography, I always wanted to take photos in a poppy field and although there were occasions when we drove by some poppy fields, due to various reasons we didn’t stop. But this time, finally, my wish came true! I later found out that you could only pick poppies there on that day but since I didn’t know, I didn’t go prepared so I only picked one poppy, haha.

About my outfit, I love this light, vintage-looking dress from Freegia, my favorite shop in Harajuku (and Shimokitazawa)! And my boater hat, which I’m addicted to, will follow me almost everywhere I go this summer as well! So happy to have found out about Fandacsia last summer, where I got this beautiful hat personalized for my head size and with a ribbon with colors of my choice.

Thank you for stopping by 🙂 !
