Many travel agencies offer bus tours around Europe and many of them have a certain theme such as European Castles, European Capitals, Northern Europe and so on. I once joined a tour like this, and in this post, I want to share my experience with you.
The tour I joined had Italy as the main destination, but besides Italy, we also visited spots in other countries as well. The tour was like this: Romania (Bucharest-Pitesti-Rm. Valcea-Deva-Arad)-> Hungary (Budapest-Gyor)-> Slovenia (Postojna Cave)-> Italy (Lido di Jesolo-Venice-Rome-Florence-Pisa) -> Austria (Wien)-> Hungary (Budapest)-> Romania (Bucharest).
Advantages of a Bus Tour in Europe
- It is usually cheaper compared with other options.
- You get to meet a lot of new people from the same group and make new friends.
- You have a guide throughout the trip.
- Quite safe as the guide already knows the places that are going to be visited.
- You get to see many places, especially important attractions of a country in a relatively short amount of time.
- As everything is being taken care of by the agency, you don’t have to worry about many things (such as reservations for accommodation, itineraries and so on).
Now, time for disadvantages
- Not having too much time in a single destination and always being on the rush (for example, we only had 3 hours in Venice, including lunch).
- Although the landscapes are beautiful, it can get tough sitting on the bus all day long or until you reach a certain destination.
- You usually don’t have time for lunch (breakfast and dinner are provided though).
I really liked the fact that we got to see so many new places but I would often be the last one to get on the bus because I would spend too much time taking photos haha. So, after this experience, I think I prefer to organize my trips by myself and spend as much time as I like in a single place. However, some destinations might be safer to go to with a group.
