Last year, I wrote a post about the highlights of my Christmas in Tokyo. This year, I wish to keep that tradition and post some of my favorite Tokyo Christmas spots from this year, the places that I managed to visit before going back home, to Romania, for the holidays 🙂 .

As I mentioned before, Christmas in Japan is about spending it with your significant other and usually going to visit some places decorated with beautiful Christmas lights. These places throughout Japan compete in amazing shows and mesmerizing lights. Only in Tokyo, there are a few really worth-to-visit places but if you are willing to go further, there are even more amazing places such as Nabana no Sato near Nagoya and Kobe Luminarie in Kobe. Click here for more information about them.

But let’s come back to Tokyo and talk about my favorite places and the ones I recommend you visit there!

1. Tokyo Midtown 東京ミッドタウン

This year I finally managed to visit one of Tokyo’s most famous places during winter and Christmas time: Tokyo Midtown’s “Midtown Christmas” located in Roppongi and featuring different types of lights. The most interesting part is the “Starlight Garden” where they have an amazing show of lights. I really loved it and thought it was very futuristic but did not particularly made me think of Christmas… I thought it was more like a teamLab creation rather than a Christmas-themed spot. Nevertheless, it was quite entertaining to watch so I recommend it!

2. Tokyo Tower 東京タワー

One of the must-see places if you are visiting Tokyo, Tokyo Tower features a beautiful Christmas-themed spot as well. I especially like the tunnel located near its entrance. And there is also a photo service offered in case you want a family photo in front of their red Christmas tree.

3. Nicolai Bergmann Nomu Cafe

This place is a bit unusual for this list as it is not a Christmas lights spot but a cafe and flower shop. The design of the flowers and the decorations of this little shop and the cafe inside change according to the season and for Christmas, they have super beautiful displays and also Nicolai Bergmann’s signature flower boxes in a special Christmas-themed design. It is the perfect gift for anyone who loves flowers! They are made both from fresh flowers or preserved flowers and you can opt for the one you prefer if you’d like to buy one. The shop is only located at around a 15 min. walk from Shibuya station so it is perfect to stop by for a break from walking around Shibuya but beware that the cafe might get very crowded during weekends.

4. Ebisu Garden Place 恵比寿ガーデンプレイス

I visited this place for Christmas again this year and couldn’t exclude it from this list as I had a special Christmas photo shooting here with my friend, Mike. Although it was quite crowded, I think we managed to find some good spots and take some nice photos. Also check out his gallery here.

5. Caretta Shiodome カレッタ汐留

And again, I repeat one place from last year’s top because it remains my favorite spot in Tokyo for the Christmas lights. Last year, they had an enchanting show of lights and music from the Disney movie “Beauty and the Beast” and this year they have several shows from various Disney movies, with the main movie being “Frozen” this year. You can check out a detailed schedule of the shows here. I love the magic and romantic atmosphere here and although they don’t feature Christmas songs, I think that the Disney atmosphere works perfectly for Christmas as well.

Thank you very much for stopping by and happy winter holidays!
