We stayed in Fira for most of our time on the island so we had the chance to visit quite a few restaurants and make an idea about where you can have pretty good food. I wasn’t really familiar with Greek food before, but I can honestly say that I fell in love with Greek cuisine and now it is one of my favorite cuisines in the world! Yummy cheese, seafood, fish, olives, tomatoes make for great dishes that are best when accompanied by a glass of beer or wine. So here are 3 restaurants that I recommend for you to try in Fira, the capital city of Santorini.

1. Salt&Pepper

We went there for our first dinner, and it was the only place that we returned to for lunch also. It is a simple restaurant on the main street of Fira, owned by the chef and his wife, who is also the waitress. The food was so delicious and the atmosphere there felt like home. For dinner, we ordered Seafood Mix for two and Greek Salad+ wine and it was around 50 Euros. That was the usual price for a dinner for two in Fira, it was not too cheap but not too expensive either (you can get more expensive of course).

Then the other day for lunch, we had pasta, souvlaki and ice tea for about the same price. I recommend Salt&Pepper firstly because of the food, you can immediately notice that they use very fresh ingredients, and along with the great seasoning, all the dishes that we ordered were perfect. I think that anything you order there must be delicious. Secondly, I recommend it because of the friendly staff. The lady there was so nice, treated us like family, taught us many words in Greek (learned that a diminutive for my name in Greek would be “Anula”) and expect her to take a photo of you while having your meal which I thought was really nice because you get a beautiful memory of your time there (I think we all have asked a waiter/waitress to take a photo of us and our friends in a special place or at a special event). And I also find the name quite catchy, because in the end what gives the best taste to any dish in the world, are the two magic ingredients, salt and pepper!

2. Ouzeri

This is a taverna also located near the main street of Fira. We went there for lunch and had their famous octopus and calamari. Both were so delicious along with a yummy Greek Salad (I think we had Greek Salad for every lunch and dinner while we were in Greece…it was just too good and along with the meat). The staff here was also very friendly and the food delicious, I especially liked the plating of the octopus, it looked like a 5-Star restaurant plating but it was quite affordable actually. So if you go there, try their octopus! The atmosphere was also pretty nice, I liked the cute tablecloths and the Greek music. Perfect atmosphere for a Greek taverna.

3. Naoussa

I know this restaurant is named after a beautiful village in Greece. If you want to have a nice dinner view but don’t want to spend a fortune, then try Naoussa! Nice view over the famous Fira sunset and also very good food. We went there for dinner and had the Tzatziki with Pita and Saganaki Fried Cheese as starters and the famous Greek Moussaka as the main dish. If you want to be seated close to the beautiful view, you should make a reservation in advance.

Not many but I think these 3 restaurants (or at least one of them) are nice to try if you visit Fira! Do you have any other recommendations? Please let me know in the comments below 🙂
